Job Description
The Engineering Manager – Electrical Design will be responsible for leading the design and engineering of utility-scale solar power projects, ensuring technical excellence, compliance with industry standards, and timely project execution. The role involves managing the complete electrical design process, supporting pre-bid engineering activities, optimising system performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to successfully deliver renewable energy projects.
The position requires close coordination with Business Development, Project Management, Procurement, and Engineering teams to develop cost-effective, high-quality solar PV solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Electrical System Design
- Lead the design and engineering of DC and AC systems for utility-scale solar PV projects.
- Prepare complete engineering specifications and technical documentation for project execution.
- Design electrical systems in compliance with national and international standards and applicable grid codes.
- Develop plant layouts, Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
2. System Engineering & Analysis
- Perform system sizing calculations, including cable sizing, earthing, protection coordination, fault level studies, and lighting calculations.
- Conduct PV system simulations and energy yield analysis using PVsyst.
- Evaluate PV modules and optimise system performance through technical analysis.
- Perform PR (Performance Ratio) and availability calculations in accordance with contractual requirements.
3. Design Optimisation
- Conduct design reviews and optimise electrical systems for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Evaluate alternative engineering solutions to maximise project value.
- Ensure engineering designs meet technical, commercial, and operational objectives.
4. Pre-Bid Engineering Support
- Prepare pre-bid engineering designs, technical proposals, and supporting documentation for prospective projects.
- Coordinate closely with the Business Development team to meet customer submission timelines.
- Provide technical support during bid clarification and proposal evaluation stages.
5. Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare equipment specifications, engineering codification procedures, and Manufacturer Document Lists (MDLs).
- Develop Operation & Maintenance (O&M) technical procedures and documentation.
- Maintain engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable electrical standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements.
6. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Collaborate with Project Management, Procurement, Construction, and Quality teams to ensure smooth project execution.
- Provide technical guidance during project implementation and commissioning.
- Support troubleshooting and engineering reviews throughout project delivery.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in electrical design within the renewable energy or solar power sector.
- Proven experience in utility-scale solar PV engineering and electrical system design.
- Experience supporting EPC solar projects from pre-bid through execution is preferred.
